Free Knowledge Africa is no stranger to the public domain as we have carried out a series of campaigns promoting the public domain and emphasizing its importance to the creative world. Our previous Public Domain Projects have included:

This year, we are proud to announce the 2024 Public Domain Campaign with the main objective of raising awareness about the challenges people face in accessing intellectual materials and highlighting the importance of the Public Domain and Open Access Initiatives, advocating for a more robust and accessible public domain to promote creativity and innovation.

Targeted Audience

Our target audience for this campaign includes students, researchers, educators, cultural heritage institutions, and the general public interested in knowledge sharing. 

Our Key message for this Campaign is to:

  1. Motivate creators to be inspired by the massive Public Domain collection available.
  2. Sensitize the public about the Public Domain and how works enter into the Public Domain.
  3. Highlight the public domain as a vital part of our cultural heritage.

Campaign Timeline

The Campaign will run for 12 weeks from 1st August to 31st October and will include

  • Social media Campaigns available on YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and Facebook
  • ‘Do you know’ series on important facts about the Public Domain
  • Success Stories on willing individuals on how they have benefited from the public Domain. To share your story, check out our call
  • Launching of the Nigerian Public Domain website where works in the Nigerian Public Domain are available under the Public Domain Mark (CC0) for use, reuse, and adaptation. Click here to visit the Nigerian Public Domain Website 
  • Q&A sessions, webinars, workshops, and live discussions with collaborators and partners.
