The World Intellectual Property (IP) Day is globally celebrated on the 26th of April. This year, Free Knowledge Africa in conjunction with the National Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) joined the rest of the world to celebrate this day as well as Public Domain Day usually celebrated on the 1st of January to create awareness about the role of Intellectual Property in the wellbeing of the society as a stimulus and driver of innovation and creativity.
Based on this year’s theme, ‘Intellectual Property (IP) and the SDGs: Building our common future with Innovation and Creativity,’ Free Knowledge Africa and the National Institute of Advanced Legal Studies organized a one-day hybrid event to celebrate Intellectual Property (IP) Day and the Nigerian Public Domain Day simultaneously.
This event focused on the core theme of this year’s IP day ‘Creativity and Innovation’ and their synergies with the SDGs, and how IP can harness the benefits of the Public Domain.
The hybrid event was held on the 26th of April at the Premise of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in Lagos, Nigeria. This event was also streamed online.
